Stick to (something)

To follow, continue or persist with something without changing it, giving up or getting distracted.

1. As with anything, when it comes to learning English, you need to stick to it and keep working at it. If you persist long enough you will reach your goals. As they say, “Practice makes perfect”.

2. If someone sticks to their guns, they keep their position even if people attack or criticize them. Muamar Kadafi stuck to his guns even when the whole world was against him. Did that make him a madman or did it make him a martyr?

3 Do you know anyone who finds it difficult to stick to the point – someone who can’t focus on one point and who gets distracted and rambles on (talks and talks) about everything under the sun?

4. Stick-to-itiveness is a noun which comes from the phrase “stick to it”. If you have stick-to-itiveness, you have “dogged determination”, incredible perseverance or tenacity. You don’t give up easily. You stick to something until it is completed.

  2. I have problems sticking to the subject. When I speak to my husband I talk about everything "under the sun" except the thing we were discussing.

  3. @AnonymousMaybe that's the way women were "built"....
With my wife, perhaps I try to be too focused and logical. I must admit, I could be a better listener.

  4. Hi there Frank,

It's Eugene again. "Practice makes perfect", I agree, as long as you stick to a certain point. Especially true, when you're new to it, in which case, I have to spend lots of time on the internet doing a research about the topic. In the vast majority of cases, the outcome is positive and useful, I figure out the topic to a certain extent.

Are there really more examples in the PDF? I've checked what happens when you click the links. Facebook: it asks me to log in there. Twitter: the cloudflood site/app requests too many permissions as for me, I'm somewhat apprehensive to confirm the access.

  5. @pluton Hi Eugene,
Yep, there are more examples in the PDF... and I know it's not as easy as before to download the PDF's... now instead of one click, it takes 2 clicks more. Take a look at this site: http://cloudflood.com/
I've decided to test it out... and it's just like any other application that you would have to give permission to access your FB or Twitter account. No difference. As a result a few less people are downloading initially, however when people share on FB/ Twitter, there are more back-links to the original post and people are sharing and downloading a whole lot more. Normally I have hundreds of downloads a day, with almost no mentions/ likes/ shares etc (Not many people are like you!). I guess that people need a little bit of an incentive to share... and the cool thing that happens when they do is that more people can benefit from the material I prepare

  6. @Frank, as for me, the issue here is not as much in the increased number of steps to take the pdf as in the permissions I should give to a third-party site/app. On the other hand, I understand your position, and I'd probably try the same thing, were I in your shoes.

The [Reply to comment] link seems interesting, but the result is not visually understandable, that is, there is no indentation and trees of comments. You may try the https://disqus.com/ comments.

  7. @pluton Interesting application Eugene! I have taken a superficial look at it just now... but will have to explore some more later. If I like it, you may just see if up on my blog before the end of the week. Thanks a ton.
